still remember the day it all started. It was another record-breaking hot day in February in Bengaluru. I reached the pool with my 7-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter. During a month of training, I learned how to float and could move some distance by kicking.
One of the coaches, who was the lifeguard that day, waved and said, “Hello, madam ji. Aaj late hogaye?” (You’re late today.) Abhi, a North Indian in his mid-20s, was tall, fair, and fit. I waved back and replied, “Hi, Coach. Aaj so gayee thi.” (I had gone to sleep.)
